Free and low-cost half-term activities for children and young people

It's half-term next week (27 to 31 October). Check out sports, play, youth and creative activities near you.

  • Sports and physical activities. We're excited to announce that our school holiday sports programme will run at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, Adelaide Road, NW3 3NF, this October half-term, as Talacre Sports Centre is closed next week for refurbishment. There's a variety of sports, fun activities and swimming on offer at Swiss Cottage - including the Multisport Scheme for ages 8 to 12 years. Children of all abilities welcome, all activities supervised by qualified coaches, with concessionary rates available - find out more and book. Meanwhile, Arsenal in the Community free football sessions are running at Cantelowes Gardens, Camden Road NW5, on 29, 30 and 31 October, for children aged 8 to 14.   • Youth activities. Check out October half-term youth programmes at local youth centres, ranging from cookery and pumpkin carving, sports and fitness to gardening, quizzes, tie-dye T-shirt design, spooky arts and crafts and a bowling trip. Find out more
  • Black Women and Girls in History creative workshop. Free creative session, as part of Camden Black History Season, for children aged 8 to 16 and their families at Kentish Town Library, 262-266 Kentish Town Road, NW5 2AA, on Tuesday 28 October at 11.30am. Based on her book 'A Self-Love Journal for Amazing Black Girls', Ruby Mulraine - founder of The Blk Classroom, award-winning media professional, and creative educator - invites you to a vibrant workshop for children and families. Drawing on her career at BBC Radio 1Xtra and years of inspiring young people, Ruby brings storytelling, empowerment, and Black history to life. Discover the stories of trailblazing Black girls and women, from historic icons to modern-day change makers. Participants will design a personalised tote bag celebrating a heroine’s story - so they can “carry her power” beyond the session and into their everyday lives. Find out more
  • Play schemes. Run by community and voluntary organisations, and funded by the Council, for children aged four to 12. Includes specialist provision for children and young people with additional needs. Find out more and book

  • Activities for children and families at the British Library. Explore what's on for children and families at the British Library, 96 Euston Road, NW1 2DB, including their Family Station: Explore and Play, which is a free drop-in for children of all ages and their families running from 24 to 30 October, 11am to 3pm each day.
