As part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week (10 to 17 October), Camden Council has launched a creative competition for children and young people.
Children and young people who live or study in Camden are being invited to enter prose, poetry or artwork in two age categories: ages 5 to 11 and ages 12 to 21.
The winners will have their work published in our libraries and will receive a £25 voucher. Two runners-up will also receive £10 vouchers.
We are looking for short written pieces (under 900 words) of fiction or non-fiction, poems (under 600 words and under 45 lines long) or artwork of any medium, as long as it can be reproduced as a single image within a printed page. The theme is 'My vision for a safe, strong and equal Camden for everyone who lives, works and studies here'.
In Camden, we are working hard to ensure that everyone knows how to recognise and report hate crime. We want everyone to stand up together against hateful, divisive behaviour in our borough.
Work is taking place across Camden Council and the wider Camden community to promote community cohesion and safety. This campaign aims to celebrate the diverse people of Camden, and our strength when we work together and support each other.
How to enter the creative competition
The competition is free to enter but you'll need the permission of your parent or guardian. Please send your entries by email to prevent@camden.gov.uk with your name and age category. We’re accepting entries now and the closing date is 31 October 2020.
