The MenB vaccine is available for free this summer, to protect young people against life-threatening meningitis and sepsis.

The MenB bacteria can be spread by kissing, sharing drinks or vapes or being in close contact for a long time (like living in the same home) with someone who has the bacteria.

Being around lots of new people in shared living spaces makes it easier for MenB bacteria to spread, and starting university puts young people at higher risk of catching MenB.

If you're going to university or residential further education this year, getting vaccinated against MenB before the autumn term is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself.

Who can get the MenB vaccine?

You can book your first vaccine free at your local pharmacy if you:

• Were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
• Are under 25 (born on, or after, 21 July 2001) and starting higher education for the first time, or starting further education for the first time as a residential student, in autumn 2026.

You need to have two doses of the MenB vaccine, 28 days apart. Book your first vaccine as soon as possible so that you have time to have your second dose and be fully protected for the autumn term.
