New projects for children and young people at Central YMCA

Project Move - one of two new programmes launced by Central YMCA in Holborn

Central YMCA in Holborn has launched two new projects for children and young people.

Project Move aims to promote physical activity and wellbeing among young people of the global majority to make a positive impact on their health and personal development. These activities include:

  • Swimming sessions to teach water safety and swimming skills for children aged 4 to 12 of all genders
  • Yoga sessions to foster wellbeing, improved concentration and focus, and physical health for young girls up to 19 years old
  • Dance sessions to encourage creativity, self-expression, and physical co-ordination for young girls up to 19 years old
  • Basketball sessions to promote teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship for young girls up to 19 years old
  • Find out more by emailing Lucia.Iovine@ymca.co.uk.

Y’s Girls Project - Girls aged between 9 and 14 will be paired with a trained mentor who will work with them to boost their confidence, explore their interests, and help them to learn new things in an informal and fun environment. It's a chance for girls to try new things and provides a safe space for girls to talk through things that are bothering them and seek advice - particularly subjects that they may not feel comfortable sharing with parents, friends, or teachers.

The Y’s Girls Project has already seen great success in Scotland and internationally, and Central YMCA can’t wait to offer these new opportunities for girls in London.

If you would like to learn more about the Y’s Girls Project or you’re interested in becoming a mentor, please email Allison.Bishop@ymca.co.uk.
