Nine Camden young people with education, health and care plans have graduated from NHS Choices College Supported Internship programme at the Royal Free Hospital, in Hampstead.
The event on 25 July was attended by families, friends and colleagues who had worked alongside the interns, plus representatives from Camden Council, who all gathered to congratulate the graduates and wish them luck in their future careers.
During their Supported Internships, the interns completed placements in the hospital's renal department, infectious diseases department, therapies department, subject access requests section, day surgery wards and catering, to name a few.
The interns gained valuable hands-on experience and developed a wide range of skills in their respective departments. They were able to apply their knowledge and contribute to the hospital's daily tasks, making a positive impact on patient care.
Yusaf Hamid, Choices College Area Lead, said: “I have been blessed to lead such a fantastic team of young people - a team I feel very privileged to have worked with."

What is a Supported Internship?
Do you have an education, health and care plan and are in your final year of school or college? Do you really want to get into paid employment, but feel you need intensive on-the-job support to do so?
If yes, a Supported Internship could be right for you. We offer a structured study programme, based mostly in a host business for one year, enabling young people aged 16 to 24 to get paid work at the end. We have a range of Supported Internships available in Camden.

Other support for young people and families
Time to Talk Next Steps - NDTi is back. This provides free support for young people aged 16 to 25 years in England with additional needs. It is for young people who are experiencing anxiety, isolation and who have limited or no plans for the future. In partnership with the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi), Contact are providing support, information and workshops for parents and carers about transition to adulthood. The project is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Young people can refer themselves or a referral can be made on their behalf. Please click on the link for more information, including the referral form.
