Join our Virtual Work Experience programme

Are you in Year 11 or Year 12 and studying at a Camden school? Then you can join our Virtual Work Experience (VWEX) programme.

You can gain a valuable insight into how world-leading organisations like Google or SCS Railways operate or find out more about the arts, campaigning, town planning and homelessness. All this while also learning new skills, meeting new people and improving your CV for college, apprenticeships, work and university applications.

  • The VWEX programme is run by Camden Learning, as part of Camden's wider Summer in Camden programme, in partnership with the organisations below.

Summary of VWEX placements on offer

Google – students work together in small virtual groups, alongside industry mentors to deliver a proposal for the development of the new Google building and its retail space. Students will learn and put into practice real-world skills, from creative thinking and team collaboration, through to building design and project management, with prizes available for exceptional teams. Suits non-tech and tech students equally.

SCS Railways - through a series of masterclasses, and small group work, students will work on a real-life construction project to deliver high speed rail. Students will gain insights into engineering, building information modelling and real-life environment and sustainability challenges. They will have the opportunity to develop their communication and project management skills and learn more about the range of careers linked to ‘infrastructure’.

Camden Spark – have a large network of arts partners, ranging from music venues like the Roundhouse and theatre companies like Donmar Warehouse to dance venues like The Place. Students will work with Camden Spark’s network over the course of the week to develop Camden’s youth voice strategy, which they will then pitch to an expert panel. Students will be mentored by the team to help develop skills in leadership, event, campaign planning and co-design.

Camden Council - Working together in small virtual groups - alongside mentors from different departments such as housing, regeneration and marketing - you and your team, will deliver detailed proposals for real-life challenges faced by Camden residents and businesses. Students will either redesign a Camden high street, or work to solve the pressing issue of homelessness.
