Occupational therapy

Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy Service

Occupational therapy is about supporting people to manage essential daily activities.

Daily activities may be:

  • getting in and out of the bath or shower
  • getting around your home, and going and down stairs
  • sometimes feeling unsafe in your own home, such as the possibility of falling or forgetting to switch off taps or cookers.

If you have a carer, the Occupation Therapy service also considers the needs and abilities of your carer.

We then make recommendations, which can include some or all of the following:

  • working with you to find a different way to manage tasks you have difficulty with
  • providing minor adaptations e.g. grab rails to help get in and out of your bath
  • arranging major adaptations like stairlifts and ramps
  • advice and equipment to make things easier and safer for carers

Update on NRS Healthcare

NRS Healthcare, a provider we work with to supply community care equipment, has ceased trading at short notice on 1 August 2025.

Our priority is to ensure the safety of our residents, and we’ve been working with other London boroughs to identify an alternative provider of these services. We're currently in the process of switching from NRS to a new supplier. The community equipment service provides items like walking sticks, bath boards, toilet frames, commodes, pressure mattresses, hoists and bed rails.

We will be contacting residents who have equipment at home to let them know directly about new arrangements. Until then, Camden Council’s arrangements with our existing provider (NRS Healthcare) are still in place and you can still call the NRS Healthcare number on your equipment if you need anything.

We will be in touch with service users directly but you can also contact the Council on 020 7974 2272 or email [email protected] if you have any questions.
